Christian Science came into my experience fifty-one years ago when a friend invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I began to read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and realized at once that this was for me.

I have always been grateful that my parents, who were active members of the Presbyterian Church, taught me from childhood to know and love the Bible. However, it was not until I began to understand something of Christian Science that I realized the importance of comprehending the spiritual meaning of the Bible passages. I had thought that there should be healing through prayer as Jesus healed. So it was with joy that I read the following words at the beginning of the first chapter of Science and Health (p. 1): "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." Here was a book that could teach one to heal through prayer as Jesus healed!

To me, an outstanding healing occurred early in my study of Science. I awakened one morning very ill with influenza. Living alone and without access to a telephone, I became very fearful. Then I decided that this was an opportunity to put into practice what I had been learning. So I turned to God in prayer. As my thought became calmer, the following passage from the textbook came to thought (pp. 380, 381): "Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God."
