COLITA

[Original in Spanish]

One day two little brothers opened the door of their casa, or house, to go for a bicycle ride. "Look!" said Fabian. A pair of playful eyes stared up at them. A small dog wagged his tail as fast as he could. What a wonderful dog! They had to keep him! Fabian and Luis loved the little dog from the start. "He has such a little tail, una colita," said Luis. "Let's call him 'Colita.'"

Luis and Fabian attended the Christian Science Sunday School, la Escuela Dominical de la Ciencia Cristiana, and knew that a dog, like everything else that God made, represents an idea of God—this idea must therefore express Love and Life, which are names for God. The Discoverer of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Science and Health, "Love giveth to the least spiritual idea might, immortality, and goodness, which shine through all as the blossom shines through the bud." Science and Health, p. 518;

Wagging his tail, Colita followed the boys as they played. He was always running after them and after cars. One day, when an automobile went by and the dog ran after it, no one thought anything about it. But Colita suddenly cried out. The car had run over him. He bravely walked a few yards. Fabian leaped from his tree perch to help. Luis was already there with Colita. They decided to take the dog home. Colita could hardly follow them, so they picked him up.
