Testimony of Healing February 19, 1972 Issue

It is with deep gratitude that I write this testimony. I have been a student of Christian Science for over twenty-five years. During this time many trials have been overcome for me through the application of the truth as taught us in Christian Science. Mary Baker Eddy tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures that "trials are proofs of God's care" (p. 66). As I recognized my true identity as a child of God, I learned many valuable lessons, and as I turned from sense to Soul, demonstrating my true nature, I found that God is an ever-present help in time of trouble. Through the constant study and application of Christian Science I have truly found a better way of life and a peace and happiness that no one can take from me. Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 284 of Science and Health that "according to Christian Science, the only real senses of man are spiritual, emanating from divine Mind."

I would like to relate a healing of influenza I had several years ago. Each year my employer recommended that everyone take a material remedy for the prevention of influenza. Suggestions of the dangers if material means were not resorted to also came from my co-worker. I had refused this material remedy for many years, knowing that God was my protection at all times and under all circumstances. The work load had been heavy at my office, and evidently I had not kept my thought clear, for one Saturday evening I came down with fever and pain. I prayed to know, as best I could, the truth as we are taught in Christian Science, but early Sunday morning I was still suffering. I called for help at this time from a devout Christian Science practitioner. She consented to help me through prayer. I kept my thought open, listening for Truth to fill my consciousness. I arose, dressed, and went for a ride Sunday afternoon. After I returned that evening, the healing came as if a weight had been lifted from my body. From then on I was free of all fever and pain. I returned to work on Monday morning without any aftereffects.

Another healing for which I am most grateful is the overcoming of chronic depression. While I was working on this problem as we are taught in Christian Science, the word "forgiveness" came to me. I then realized I had felt resentful toward a member of my family over an inharmonious family involvement some years before, for which I seemed to blame myself as well as others.
