Need of Believing Precluded

When Christ Jesus healed, he often said something like, "Be not afraid, only believe." Mark 5:36; From his day to this, many have received their healing by obeying this command. On the other hand, many have tried in vain to believe, feeling bound by the world's resistance to the human demonstration of spiritual facts. Christian Science presents the truth upon which Jesus' command to believe was based—the truth that frees men to believe and be healed.

This truth is the law of God, the Science of Christ, Christian Science. It is the law of divine causation and divine effect—infinite Mind, God, reflecting itself, Himself, in limitless ideas. Mind is the Principle of all, perfect Love, the only Life, Truth, Spirit, Soul. The reflection is man, spiritual, whole, pure, radiant.

As we become conscious of God's perfect law in action, we experience its wondrous effect. It is wondrous because it interprets its own truths in terms human consciousness can understand. And one thing human consciousness can understand, when it believes in a material existence with a material body, is healing of the body.
