Over sixty years ago, through the study of Christian Science, my mother was healed of a crippling form of rheumatism. I was in grade school at the time a kind neighbor told us about Christian Science, and am grateful that I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 369): "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." I accepted this Science without reservation, and now know that through my mother's understanding and prayerful work I experienced a life free from fear and many illnesses. I did not really make an effort to gain a knowledge of the Christ, Truth, as long as I had her to call on for help.
Some of the healings that have occurred in our family are those of burns, sprained ankle, neuralgia, and influenza. I am grateful for help given by Christian Science practitioners, including my mother, when assistance was needed in solving problems.
I am also grateful for growth in understanding of the basic law of the Science of being that was gained at a time when a skin disorder appeared on my hands and arms. I was employed in work with the general public, and the condition was noticed by many. Loving and well-meant suggestions were made that I should obtain medical help. Finally I awoke to the need of facing up to the problem, and of proving to myself and others that Christian Science heals.
