Let's Not Brace Against Change

These are days when much we have held to in the past is being challenged. Religion, education, social patterns, are being seriously surveyed as to their relevance to the times. Shall we cling to the old ways just because they are the old ways, and brace against needed change? Shall we condemn without a hearing those who would set aside our comfortable pattern of living? Are we fearful that we will not fit into the new way of life?

Mrs. Eddy saw that while all that is good in individual consciousness is eternal, many changes would come to human experience, brought about by the operation of spiritual Truth in human consciousness. She writes, "Eternal Truth is changing the universe. As mortals drop off their mental swaddling-clothes, thought expands into expression. 'Let there be light,' is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the music of the spheres." Science and Health, p. 255;

What about those "mental swaddling clothes"? Are we holding them about us, trying to delay the day when we must move out into broader thought and action? Are we trying to keep for ourselves a sense of false peace that comes from apathy and inactivity? How much better to apply Christian Science vigorously to the situation, unwind the self-will, and expose our thinking and our lives to fresh inspiration!
