in a Parish Leaflet
In the world of nature this is a time of fruition and fulfilment. The long, hard winter has given way to the budding and blossoming of spring, and now fruit, flowers, and crops reach their full glory in summer. In one sense human beings are doing this all the time, but some words of Jesus should cause us to pause and think. He said once, "Lift up your eyes, for the fields are already white unto harvest." At the time he was speaking the corn was still green, and they were wondering how to feed the five thousand, without corn or bread.
As we know from the story, Jesus did this by drawing on a higher power which was not dependent on the slow laws of nature. He could tap spiritual resources which themselves are the source of nature's supply.
