Several years ago while I was in college, my two roommates...
Several years ago while I was in college, my two roommates became ill with what the doctors said was virus pneumonia. They had to leave school and go home. Shortly after that I began experiencing the same symptoms. I tried to meet the situation by declaring the truths of God and man, but I seemed to get worse instead of better. The girls in the house where I was staying told me they were afraid, and that if I wouldn't go to the hospital I would have to go home also. I decided to go home, where I could work out the problem in Christian Science.
When I arrived home, the problem took a new form. Besides having a high temperature, I found I was unable to sleep, eat, or even lie down in bed because of the severe pains in my chest and a bad cough. The Christian Science practitioner, who was treating me, was very understanding and told me to ponder "the scientific statement of being" found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The opening words are (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."
One night I felt very discouraged. The fear of death was uppermost in my thoughts. My mother offered to play the records of Science and Health. After listening to the chapter on Prayer, I felt the power of the healing Christ lifting my thought to God. I realized God was my Father-Mother and I was His perfect child. I fell asleep, and when I awoke in the morning, I was free from pain and fever.
