In Science and Health, its author, Mrs. Eddy, writes (p. 233), "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power." I am grateful that these daily proofs are part of my experience. For more than forty years I have been a student of Christian Science. Through the practice of its teachings I have not resorted to other means for my health and well-being.

About ten years ago our family was on a picnic in the mountains. While playing on some playground equipment with our young son and niece, I injured my spine. Immediately I declared the truth that man is a spiritual idea and not subject to material laws of injury. It then seemed best to leave for home, and upon arriving there I was unable to walk upright into the house, the pain had become so severe. This condition persisted several days, during which time I continued to pray. I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, who reassured me that God is all-power and that accidents are unknown to God and therefore unknown to His reflection, man; that I was and always had been the perfect reflection of the perfect God. She continued to help me for several days, and soon I was able to go about my regular duties.

Some months later I noticed that it was difficult for me to sit for any length of time without discomfort, and my legs would feel numb. Again the practitioner was called, and together we claimed man's perfection and affirmed that although this seemed to stem from the previous experience, I did know that God's work is permanent. I was referred to Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 74): "In Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown." This time the healing came, and there has been no return of the problem.
