I feel a deep sense of gratitude as I recall how I was forced to accept certain experiences that resulted in great growth for me.

Over twenty-five years ago Christian Science was introduced to me by a very dear friend, who has stood by me all these years through many trials and tribulations. At that time I seemed very confused, uncertain, alone, and fearful. My first healings after starting to attend the Christian Science services were those of smoking, social drinking, and constant nagging pains that pain relievers did not relieve. The condition was called polio neuritis. It was gradually healed through prayer and my daily study of the Bible Lesson in our textbooks, the King James Version of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

My friend and I spent many hours together as she guided me in my study. I was like a dry blotter soaking in all the wonderful truths Mrs. Eddy has given us in all her writings. Very soon I joined The Mother Church, and as I gained self-confidence, the desire to serve in a branch church resulted in membership and church activity. A gift of a week at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in San Francisco resulted in my being healed of the coffee-drinking habit, which seemed to have quite a hold on me.
