A statement by Mrs. Eddy inscribed on the wall of a Church of Christ, Scientist,...

A statement by Mrs. Eddy inscribed on the wall of a Church of Christ, Scientist, which I attended, led to a beautiful healing: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." These words are from page 494 of Science and Health.

One of our young sons had developed a very painful wart on the bottom of his foot. In thinking about the condition and how to heal it through Christian Science treatment, I realized that the feeling between the family and the child had not been completely harmonious, and that we were not correcting the situation lovingly as we are taught to do in Christian Science. I realized that we must express more love and patience toward him.

The day after this thought came to me, as we sat in church waiting for the Sunday service to begin, my eyes fell upon the inscription quoted above. As I read it, a bright light seemed to appear and encircle the child. My consciousness was so filled with divine Love that nothing else but this Love had any reality. I felt an unbounded sense of love for everyone, and the child was foremost in my thought. One of Mrs. Eddy's students reported that in describing her own healing work Mrs. Eddy said, "I saw the love of God encircling the universe and man, filling all space, and that divine Love so permeated my own consciousness that I loved with Christlike compassion everything I saw" (We Knew Mary Baker Eddy, First Series, p. 74).
