In the hope that it may encourage others to find their true...

In the hope that it may encourage others to find their true identity it is a great privilege to be able to add my testimony to the many others that I have enjoyed. Christian Science was brought into my experience about fifty years ago. A dear sister was healed of tuberculosis. She sent my mother a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I read haphazardly a few times. I knew that it was the only religion I could embrace, but I seemed unwilling to follow its teachings closely. When a problem presented itself, I would call a Christian Science practitioner and receive help; then I carried on until the next need arose.

After I married and had children, I turned more and more to Christian Science for its healing help. Since we lived where I could not get to church and my husband was not interested in Science, I had many opportunities to pray for myself. One outstanding healing was that of my daughter when she was about fourteen months old. A rash appeared all over her body, and a high fever was apparent. My husband was not at home, and I became very fearful as she tossed and fretted and was unable to sleep.

I picked up my Bible and opened it to the verse (Ps. 34:22): "The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate." I then started to read the chapter from Science and Health entitled "Prayer." My thought was arrested when I reached the paragraph which begins (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." I went over this many times before realizing that my child was sleeping comfortably and the rash was disappearing. By morning she was well and happy. There were many more instances of healings of so-called children's disease:, as well as the overcoming of migraine, colds, undesirable traits of character in myself, and a great sense of lack.

Another healing took place about six years ago. My husband was an invalid. While I was caring for him, my knee swelled and became painful, making it very difficult to walk. I asked a practitioner for treatment, and after a few days the swelling went down. Thereafter, I was able to sleep nights and to do more of my housework. In about three weeks I was completely healed. I was led to ponder these verses from Romans (14:11,12): "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." Many healing thoughts from Science and Health were kept constantly in my thinking.

I can never be grateful enough to God for Christ Jesus and the many healings he accomplished, and for Mrs. Eddy, whose patience and love enabled her to give us Science and Health. Each day I am grateful for the periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor. I am also very thankful for the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal, many of which, like a treatment in themselves, are full of healing. This second verse from Hymn No. 134 was especially helpful when I was confined to my home for a long period of time:

Thy calmness bends serene above,
My restlessness to still;
Around me flows Thy quickening life
To nerve my faltering will:
Thy presence fills my solitude;
Thy providence turns all to good.

I am happy to be a member of The Mother Church and also of a branch church.
