Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook, Science and Health (p.1)...

Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook, Science and Health (p.1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." I am profoundly grateful for the many times this statement has been proven, and is being proved, through my daily experiences in Christian Science.

About seventeen years ago I experienced severe nervousness and humbly desired to be free from the many tormenting fears which accompanied this condition. The doctor could not help me. It was at this time that my sister-in-law offered to loan me the textbook, which someone had loaned her.

Truly it met my need. The more I read the more I was convinced of the truth therein. One statement which was especially helpful is (ibid., p. 264), "We must look where we would walk, and we must act as possessing all power from Him in whom we have our being." I used this constantly and experienced a complete healing of the nervousness.

My utmost desire after that was to take our four daughters to the Christian Science Sunday School. With no verbal request from me, one Sunday, to my delight, instead of driving us to our usual Sunday School, my husband drove us to the Christian Science church. From then on the children attended the Sunday School and I attended the services.

When I was still a very new student of Science, I lit the water heater one day. Accumulated gas exploded, throwing me across the room, singeing my hair, and burning my fingers and the inside of one of my arms as high as the elbow. The arm was red, and the burns were painful. Having previously heard much about second and third degree burns, for a moment I wondered what the consequences would be if I didn't use a material remedy. But, "A little child shall lead them" (Isa. 11:6). One daughter reprimanded me for not trusting Christian Science as I constantly bade her do.

This rebuke broke the mesmerism of fear; I applied the truth, and at my youngest daughter's command I played the piano, first with one hand and finally with both. The word "rebuked," especially as used in some accounts of Jesus' healings, helped immensely. When my husband arrived home later that night, there was no evidence of the burns whatsoever.

I have also been blessed with two younger daughters, who have had the precious privilege of being reared in Science since they were about a month old and who are now members of The Mother Church. They attend Wednesday evening testimony meetings in the branch church of which my husband and I are members. "My cup runneth over" (Ps. 23:5). I shall never cease to be grateful for being led to Christian Science, the religion of Love; for Mrs. Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder; for Christ Jesus, our Exemplar; and above all for God, the giver of all good. God is my Life.
