Christian Science came into my...

Christian Science came into my family before the turn of the century when my grandmother was healed of cancer. I can truthfully say that Christian Science has met all our needs and has been the door to many bountiful blessings.

The happy experience of having four children born at home with the loving support of a Christian Science nurse and a Christian Science practitioner has indeed been a blessing. Each day has brought opportunities for proving the healing and protecting power of Christian Science.

Several years ago I lost my voice completely for about six weeks. Finally, after much prayerful work was done, I was able to whisper and gradually to speak aloud. But my voice was still hoarse and remained so for almost three years. After I was able to speak, I did very little specific work about the condition, and only when a stranger would ask me if I had a cold, would I remind myself, "Tomorrow I must begin working about this."

Then came the day when I was forced to make this demonstration. I was elected First Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. At first I thought I could not possibly do the work, and then came these words from Micah (6:8 ): "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" My answer came so clearly that God, Mind, controls our progressive steps and surely equips us in every way for the performance of our duties.

I began my term as Reader with joy and gratitude. For the first few months I experienced considerable difficulty. However, I continued striving to claim my fully equipped spiritual selfhood as the reflection of God, which manifests power, strength, and beauty of expression in unlimited measure. Encouraging to me was this statement from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 390 ): "We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony."

I felt a great love and support from the congregation, and each time I read, it was better and easier than the time before. As I began my second year as Reader, I realized that my healing was complete and that my voice was normal in every respect.

How grateful I am to have had this healing! It taught me clearly that time cannot heal anything and that complete healing can come regardless of the length of time that a condition has been inharmonious. I realized too that it is not enough to have a situation bearable; I must continue the prayerful work until the facts of harmonious being become evident.

When I contemplate the many blessings that have come to our entire family as the result of my experience as Reader, I wonder how I could ever have hesitated to accept such a rewarding opportunity. My gratitude and love continue to grow for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the wonderful experience of class instruction, through which I learned how to apply the rules of Christian Science more systematically and effectively.—(Mrs.) Frances M.
