Summer Rain

Oh , the smell of summer rainAs it patters down the dust! And, oh, the thoughts that come againOf verdant hope and vanquished pain,Like fragrance rising from earth's crust,Subdued and wet by summer rain!Who could cherish doubt and fear,When through lattice pink and whiteOf blossoming trees, blue skies appear?

Wayside Hymn

Father divine, Thou giv'st our dower:We taste the wine of Love,And in Thy presence every hour,With heart elate, find needful power,The strength that lifts above.

"Songs in the night"

A song may sing its simple wayWhere sermons fail to reach;A song sometimes the heart may stayWhen prophets vainly preach.

The Pine

Commanding and rugged rises the sturdy shaft of the pinetree.

Awakening!

How harsh the din of worldly strife! How grievous mortal hate and fear! But'mid the tumult, calm and clear,A voice awakes to holier life.
