Meekness is a power

I had finally found the perfect graduate school program—or so I thought. I’d stumbled upon it online, and it had everything I’d been looking for. I felt almost as though this program were designed with my future career goals in mind.

Getting a master’s degree was something I had wanted to pursue since middle school. So, when I found the program of my dreams, I was eager to get started. I filled out the application, began collecting necessary paperwork, registered for the GREs (Graduate Record Examinations—a test I needed to take), and brushed up on my studies.

The one thing I didn’t do was pray or turn to God. I knew prayer was important, but I honestly didn’t think I needed to pray in this case because of how perfect this program felt for me, and how my talents meshed with it. I was sure I would be accepted without having to try very hard. I can see now that I was at least a little arrogant in my thinking.
