Eye on the World: a financial bailout for Cyprus

Eurozone finance ministers agreed this week to a 10-billion-euro bailout deal for Cyprus, which will keep the country’s banking system from collapsing and allow it to remain in the Eurozone. Though officials say the island country has avoided bankruptcy, they also caution that Cyprus faces a deep recession and that many businesses may close. While Cypriots are relieved that the deal protects small depositors, worries about high unemployment and the overall health of banks cast a pall over the country.
