What silences

What silences the “ifs”?
“If thou be the Son of God, . . .”
if you had more faith
if you were a better person
if you hurt less

Not our own words
or efforts

But the Word of God:
“It is written, . . .”
“It is written again, . . .”
“It is written, . . .”

The Word of God
to us
for us
embracing us
in Love

“Then the devil [the ifs] leaveth him” ¹
And us
