Seeking and finding

Originally published in the March 15, 1891 issue of the Christian Science Series (Vol. 2, No. 22)

I say I seek the Light, but turn aside
This way and that way, looking for a guide;
Behind me cast a glance, as if, may be,
Out of the shadows it will beam on me;
Forgetting that the sun shines alway, though
Unto my vision it may not seem so.

“’Tis thus I seek the Truth, and restless run,
Asking: ‘Where may it be?’ of every one;
Turning to paths that other feet have trod,
If haply I may find the way to God;
Then, while I waiting stand, the Light I see:
That Christ—the Truth—abideth now in me.”

The love of God is the soul of Christianity. Christ is the body of that truth. The love of God is the creating and redeeming, the forming and satisfying power of the universe. The love of God is that which kills evil and glorifies goodness. It is the safety of the great whole. It is the home-atmosphere of all life.—George MacDonald.

“The Truth once discerned, throws its enchantment over our pathway. Life ever afterward is in possession of happiness, and multiform images of beauty, virtue, and greatness. Exulting in this lofty prospect, we realize the ability to shape a more glorious destiny.”—Writings and Genius of the Founder of Christian Science.
