A foundation to build on

I had been brought up in Christian Science, gone to Sunday School, and joined The Mother Church, but by the time I turned 17 I decided that Christian Science was “old hat” and “for the birds.” I stopped going to church and left home, but a decade later I was living a less than ideal life. I was on the other side of the world, in a very unhappy marriage, and my husband was facing bankruptcy.

At that time, my mum came to visit, and, while staying with us, asked me to drive her to a Christian Science lecture. I stayed and listened, and while I don’t remember exactly what the lecturer said, something stirred my thought. Mary Baker Eddy says in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind” (p. 162). I experienced this “change of base.” It became the turning point in my life.
