An end to heartache
Years ago I was far away from my family and feeling very much alone. There was an unbearable ache in the depth of me. I wanted to be free of this ache, free of the loneliness, so I collected my Bible and my copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and started a deep study to find God. I wanted to find love that would stay with me and forever remove the empty feeling of loneliness.
I selected these two books because in the Bible there are many stories and examples of people searching for God, who is divine Love. Also, I knew that Mary Baker Eddy had struggled with heartache when she was left alone after losing her husband, then later her child, and then her home. But as she prayed and read the Bible, Mrs. Eddy found healing and comfort in understanding that God is Love and is forever near. Determined to find what the author of Science and Health had found, I began reading with the expectancy of healing results. After several hours of study, I was totally free of the loneliness. I felt deeply peaceful, loved, and the atmosphere in my home felt cozy, warm, and full of God’s presence.
I wanted to find love that would stay with me forever.
Many years have passed and I’ve not felt that ache of loneliness again. I’ve never forgotten that very special experience of feeling enveloped in the atmosphere of love, of being lifted into an atmosphere of “home” even though I lived so many miles from my family. It is so comforting to know that our Father is a loving God, who makes His presence known no matter where we are. That unconditional love embraces us and is tangible, satisfying, and complete.
