God knows our needs
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalms 91:1). This is how one of the Bible’s most precious promises begins. The psalm elaborates, saying, “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name” (verse 14). Through the law of divine Love, God protects His children and keeps them “in perfect peace” (Isaiah 26:3).
Last summer, a friend invited me to attend a “one night only” midnight movie near a university in downtown St. Louis. Since neither of us had a car, we decided we would ride my friend’s bicycles to the theater. We would only have to bike two and a half miles from my friend’s apartment, mostly on a main road, to get there.
The morning of the movie, I prayed to know that at all times, and certainly during the coming evening, every one of God’s children was protected, including my friend and me. I refused to be afraid that we could be victims of crime just because it was a late showing. Praying throughout the day kept my thought calm, uplifted, and attuned to God.
