Poems

"Peace, be Still!"

In stormiest sea there comes to me,A message from above,Mid the lightning's flash and the thunder's crashI hear the voice of Love:Peace, be still! is the whispered word,Peace, be still! be still! And the storm and strife of this dream land lifeAre calmed by the Master's will.

"He Calleth Thee"

IN blindness dost thou sit beside the way?

Patmos

Alone on Patmos Isle, in desert drear,Whence every human hope and trust had fled,Came John's pure vision,Heavenly clear.

The Thrush's Song

A wood-thrush sang to a child one day,Sang from his hedge in the garden-way,Atilt where blossoming branches sway.

Flowers

Mirrors of mornWhence the dewdrop is born,Soft tints of the rainbow and skies—Sisters of song,What a shadowy throngAround you in memory rise!

Omnipotence

Since Love is all,—our certain guide,—How can we stray?
I prayed, Thy kingdom come! For winter longHad held the frozen earth in fetters bound; And wretchedness and misery, war and wrong,Age after age, did in the world abound.

Trusting

O Weary heart and steps that slowAlong life's pathway come and go,Fear not, the Master trod aloneThe thorn-path leading to a throne.

Truth's Paean

One note with endless rangeVibrant with infinite changeAll music holds;

Out of the Gloom

Out of the gloom of centuries pastThere cometh a day of light; From man-made creed to humanity's needIs the voyage from wrong to right.
