My Prayer

Teach me, O God, to see and knowThe light the Christ has shedUpon our path, to walk in love,The way our Master led.

My Ambition

O, were it mine to sing a songWhose sweetness, at my feet should holdThe spell-bound thousands, all untold,—I'd rather far it were my partWith comfort e'en one life to fold,—Bind up one broken heart.

Simple Trust

No picture to my aid I call,I shape no image in my prayer;I only know in Him is allOf life, light, beauty, everywhere.

Hold Fast

The cause of good shall win,The side of right shall gain,For Love must blot out sin,And health will laugh at pain.

Requirement

We live by Faith; but Faith is not the slaveOf text and legend.

Success

If thou hast struck one blow for liberty,Be it of slave or shackled intellect,Thou hast not failed.

A Discovery

I STRUGGLED oft with an unseen foe.

Jubilate

O, HARP of Israel! mute so long, I sweep thy rapturous strings: Thy cadences of praise are mine! My soul in gladness sings:

Clothed Upon

The earth was bare and dun and sere.

Safe Keeping

In night time deep,When I'm asleep,I am God's child,And God doth keep.

A Smile

They might not need me—Yet they might—I'll let my heart beJust in sight—
