Poems

Two sorrie thynges there be—Ay, three—A neste from which the fledglings have been taken,A lambe forsaken,A redde leaf from the wilde rose rudely shaken.

WHEN IT IS DARK

As one who rises while as yet 'tis night,And at his window waits to seeThe first faint rays of dawning light,So wait I, healing Word, for Thee.

OH, DID THEY KNOW

Oh, did they know that God is All-in-all,That love alone the measure of that allness is,Then with what zeal they'd seek to knowThe height, the depth, the length, the breadthOf that which measures Love.

LIMITATION

THE VISITANT

MANTLED in might, Love knocks at your gate—Love urgent of voice and tender of eye.

GRATITUDE

Not in words—too oft but empty sound,As lifeless as the swish and whirl of leavesIn autumn wind—is best expressed the grateful thought.

CONVICTION

Our bark of life full oft seems tossed aboutBy undercurrent and by raging wind;By billows lashed, frail sense succumbs to doubt,Then whispers Love, Protection seek in Mind.

"ETERNITY"

There is one Life—eternal, all-inclusive,Upholding all things: and this Life is thine.

IDEALITY

When harmony rules with unchallenged might, Then merges perfect day in peaceful night Wherein there is no bitterness, no fear Or sorrow that shall start the stinging tear.

TRUTH'S EVER-PRESENCE

O Love divine! reveal Thy presence now,That in Thy glorious fulness all may seeThat sin, disease, and even death must bowBefore Thy more than might, and majesty.
