"He that keepeth Israel"

I asked God just to let me watch one nightWith love o'er all the world in peaceful prayer.

Giving

So live that when the call doth comeTo help some one in need,Thou'lt answer with a joyous heart,With open hand and eager feet.

From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

We Praise Thee, O Lord

For love that makes all alien people kin;For joy that glows, illuming all within; For peace, full flowing river of the soul;Long suffering charity, beholding aye the goal; For gentleness, compassionate to the poor; For goodness, native, changeless, and secure; For meekness, of reviling unaware,And temperance, to use Thy gifts with care; For faith, assurance Thou art still the samePure Spirit whom Thy plenteous gifts proclaim,—We laud and magnify Thy glorious name!

Love's Wondrous Power

A cry of deep and dire dismayWas borne on pinions naught could stay,So great the need that somber day.

The Refining

Apocalypse

We long have dwelt in twilight dim,Like children half afraid; In lights and shadows of a dreamTogether we have played,Or, holding each the other's hand,Forward a little strayed.

The United States to Great Britain

Hail, brother! fling thy banner     To the billows and the breeze; We proffer thee warm welcome     With our hand, though not our knees.
America! dear brother land!     While yet the shotted guns are mute,     Accept a brotherly salute,A hearty grip of England's hand.

Truth's Gloria

The powers of darkness hold no further sway,For Truth has brought to light the eternal day,And o'er the wreckage of false human willLove builds new mansions fair by waters still.

A Wider View

No longer seek I for some peak in DarienWhereon to stand and view a wide expanse,For my heart knows an ocean deeply blue,Far broader, deeper than the western seaBalboa gazed upon, and seeing itSo still and calm,Called it the Pacific.

Rest

No sweeter words than these were e'er addressedTo thee and all by mortal sense oppressed,—"Come unto me, and I will give thee rest.
