Poems

A first faint beam of morn,A thread of gold,And dimming shadows clear awayTo let the light unfoldA winding trail,Where countless steps still climbTo praise the risen Lord,With love and faith sublime.

The Way to Galilee

It was the dawn, silent, and cold, and still,Its stillness broken only by the soundOf little rustling movements in the trees,Where tiny birds awakening, stirred, and calledTheir sleepy mates, with softest twitterings.

Meditation

Father, to Thee I used to pray:Let me take love with me to-day,Let me be patient, tender, kind,Ever express the perfect Mind;Let me with comfort needed muchReveal to all the Christlike touch.

At Evening Time

However dense the darkness seems,However long the dreary night,Dawn reappears, dispelling dreams,And morning wakes in radiant light.

As Enoch Walked

Dear heavenly Father, I would walk with TheeIn deeper consciousness of Love divine;Know Thee as ever present Life and Truth; And pass from sense to Soul, my hand in Thine.

There Is No Death

You say the one you dearly love has died?

Love, the Victor

I never shall forget the loving wordsHe spoke so softly in the deepening nightAmong the shadowy trees.

Prayer for Compassion

Compassion wears soft robes of tenderness,And seeks to bless humanity with peace;Enfolds each struggling thought consolingly,And whispers promises of sweet release;Blinds up the broken ones and bids them lookFor comfort in the precious "little book.

"As a little child"

The sweet, receptive thought of childhoodOpens like a blossom to the light; With eyes of innocence and wonder,It sees and takes all goodness as its right.

Patience

If thou but learn to wait,How great will beThe harvest gathered through thy work!Thine eyes shall seeLife's joys anewAs Mind thy fear abates; Then shalt thou learn to live!

The Treasury

The rich men threw in their coins that dayWith scarce a thought, and went their way;But the widow paused, methinks, to prayAs she cast in all her living.
