The Sabbath Understood

CHRISTIAN people in general, as well as other religionists, are supposed to understand the reason for the institution of the Sabbath, even though they may hold widely differing views as to its observance.

No Other God

WHEN Naaman, "captain of the host of the king of Syria," who had come with a letter from his royal master to the king of Israel to be healed of his leprosy, and was sent by him to the house of "Elisha the man of God," received the prophet's command, "Go and wash in Jordan seven times," evidently his dignity was offended, and his contempt for the prophet and his instructions was expressed in emphatic terms.

"I will greatly rejoice"

It is deeply interesting to read the many admonitions as to rejoicing found in the Bible, and Christian Science is daily bringing these precious gems to light so that we may make them our own.

"Be of good cheer"

Because the healing of the sick is more readily seen and acknowledged than the other reforms which Christian Science has brought about in human experience, the impression has prevailed with many persons that it is the sole objective of this religious system; but such is not the case.

Correcting Self-condemnation

Self-condemnation presents itself for correction only to those who are striving for spirituality.

Rubbing Out the Chalk Line

A Christian Science practitioner was once informed by a patient that there was opposition to the study of this Science on the part of a certain member of the family, "for," explained the patient, "he is not a Scientist.

"Comfort Ye"

No one who is acquainted with the fortieth chapter of Isaiah need wonder that its inspiring phrases have been woven into the oratorio of the "Messiah," especially the opening lines, "Comfort ye my people, saith your God.

The "pearl of great price"

Apropos of the need for a religious revival, a writer in a recent issue of The Christian Work in discussing this point says:—
Christian Scientists who have had mailed to them from London, England, spurious publications which by their titles purported to be official periodicals of The Mother Church, will be interested to know that on July 27, 1916, there came to trial in the English courts the case of The Christian Science Publishing Society, of Boston, Mass.
