I recently needed help in dealing with an unfair situation at a large university.
They say "There's no such thing as a free lunch." Yet haven't most of us, in one way or another, hoped for just that? Not necessarily a noonday meal at no cost, but some unearned advantage or outcome—a glowing performance review when the effort wasn't really there or a life of leisure from a winning lottery ticket.
