Since the dedication of The Mother Church in Boston a few years ago, the growth of Christian Science, in the face of wide-spread and ofttimes bitter criticism, has been progressing steadily.
At the Canterbury Diocesan Conference, Canon Gardiner declared that the religion which ignored the spiritual element in healing was not the Christianity of Christ, and that the church needed to accept our Lord's attitude toward sickness and disease, and overcome them in the power of God through Jesus Christ.
Christian Science is not a "fad," but a practical and demonstrable system of religion and healing, which for the past forty years, in the face of the bitterest opposition and ridicule, and oftentimes persecution, has proved beyond the shadow of a doubt its right to be recognized as the greatest blessing that has come to mankind since the day of our great Master, whose teachings and practice it logically explains and interprets, in the way he commanded; namely, by the healing of sickness and the overcoming of sin.
Christian Science denies the reality of sin, sickness, and death in the sense that they are not God-made entities and consequently are not indestructible, for "whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever;" but it does not deny that these things have become a part of mortal experience, though it is constantly proving their nothingness by overcoming their asserted claims through the power of the simple gospel of Jesus.
Christian Science does by no means "stifle inquiry;" it is not so foolish as to attempt to do so, since the honest enquirer approaching the subject without bias is invariably convinced of the truth.
What then did Jesus teach?
