Walking with Love
From early girlhood I have loved the hymn that begins, “I walk with Love along the way” (Minny M. H. Ayers, Christian Science Hymnal, No. 139). I’ve had two experiences that showed Love’s tender care during times that challenged my ability to walk.
One winter my fellow teachers and I went skiing with our students, and I had an accident while getting off the chairlift. I was so grateful to have a friend with me who is a Christian Scientist. She immediately prayed and helped me untangle my skis. The situation was quite challenging, but my friend stayed right with me, and we made our way slowly down the mountain.
My knees didn’t seem right, and it was extremely painful to put weight on either leg. But I was able to get into my car and drive home. When I arrived, I got settled in the house with a neighbor’s assistance. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer and also a Christian Science nurse for some assistance and care.
