Life’s unlimited provision for us
I was in the middle of a search for a new home in a major city, and I was discouraged. I had been looking for a couple of months at apartments on Craigslist and was being shown apartments by several real estate agents, none of whom seemed to try to understand my preferences and needs. It appeared that the apartments in my price range were much too small, inconveniently located, in great need of repair, or in a run-down neighborhood. I was starting to feel boxed in by the difficulties many young professionals face when starting out in larger, sought-after cities.
However, I was in the middle of reading through Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the woman who discovered Christian Science and also established the Sentinel. This book has proved to be a reliable guide in difficult or discouraging situations.
One of the things I’ve found particularly helpful is that it makes clear that man is not subject to stereotypes or statistics. He is subject only to God and His laws of harmony. In the Glossary of Science and Health, man is defined as “the compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind” (p. 591).
