Spiritual receptivity and the longing for holiness

Christ Jesus taught his followers to detect and remove mental stumbling blocks. He urged his disciples, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation” (Mark 14:38, New King James Version). Why is it so important to watch thought? Because nothing should be allowed to obstruct our receptivity to the healing inspiration that flows without interruption from the source of our being, divine Spirit, God. Heavenly inspiration is vital for everything we do. It fills us with the understanding and essence of life—with goodness, strength, joy, health, and with the right ideas at the right time.

Spiritual understanding and inspiration characterized Christ Jesus’ life, permeated his teaching, and gave him power to do his outstanding healing work. And he gave us the key to that which makes it a joy to watchfully preserve our inspiration and receptiveness to Truth. He said: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment” (Matthew 22:37, 38, New King James Version).

Our genuine love for divine Love, and deepest devotion to divine Truth, open the door of thought to the Holy Spirit, in which there are no stumbling blocks. This love and grateful devotion help lead us to freedom from the limitations inherent in self-love, self-centeredness, stubborn self-will, shortsighted self-justification, and from all else that would obscure spiritual understanding and result in human frustration.
