God’s government, here and now
We need not be intimidated by images of chaotic or dangerous domestic or global situations.
Not long ago I was feeling disturbed about political turmoil, including war, in many places around the world. I wanted to pray about these things but felt overwhelmed.
Christian Science teaches that God, divine Love, is omnipotent and wholly good and governs all, and that therefore evil of any kind is ultimately unreal. I accepted this intellectually, but feeling it seemed difficult, and I wondered if my prayers could truly make a difference. In the face of disease and disasters—as well as conflicts, injustice, and similar situations brought about by flawed human personalities—can we truly believe that a loving, all-powerful God is governing everything? And just where is this government to be found?
When I began to experience stiffness, soreness, and a general lack of energy, I realized I was deeply anxious about world situations, and I knew I had to get serious about praying. The life of Christ Jesus seemed like a good place to begin.
