How I share Science and Health

I could have given the man money, but I felt that what would better meet his need was the truth that never runs out.

I love introducing spiritual seekers to the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. As the title indicates, it is indeed a key that unlocks the Bible’s messages of healing and redemption.

Every day, I learn from its statements of truth who we really are as children of God. Science and Health points us to the first chapter of the Bible, where man is described as made in the image and likeness of God and, like all the rest of God’s creation, “very good” (see Genesis 1:26, 27, 31). It reveals that as God’s offspring, we reflect the divine nature in health, completeness, intelligence, loving-kindness, wisdom, integrity, and so forth. And it explains how we can pray to experience the practical effect of these spiritual facts on our lives.

I naturally want to share this uplifting message with anyone who might be weary or suffering and in need of hope. When we are ready and willing to bless others, we find that opportunities for introducing people to Science and Health can come up anywhere at any time. I like to have copies of the textbook on hand for just such moments, and when I let my love for God and man lead the way, occasions for sharing unfold naturally wherever I am. I find it fascinating to witness how God directs me to share His truth in Science and Health. As the Bible puts it, “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary” (Isaiah 50:4).
