The hem of Christ’s garment
I would like to express my gratitude for the healing of a bothersome rash. One day I noticed several rough, itchy spots on my skin, some of which were red. At the time, I had been feeling highly irritated because of complicated family and work situations, and I sensed that there was a connection between this irritation and the rash.
I addressed the problem immediately through prayer. My thought went first to the story included in that week’s Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly about the woman who had suffered for 12 years from unstoppable bleeding. Having heard of Christ Jesus’ healings, she decided to reach out to him for help as a last resort, since she had spent all her money on physicians, who were unable to heal her.
The Gospel account tells us: “[She] came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: for she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour” (Matthew 9:20–22).
