God’s care is an immediate help
Years ago, as a single mother to two grade-school-aged daughters, I learned a lesson that was a great help to me as a parent.
I felt tremendous pressure as the one solely responsible for keeping my children healthy and safe. At one point while they were traveling with a relative who was not a Christian Scientist, my daughters called and told me that my younger daughter had become quite ill and listless with a fever. Though I knew this family member loved my children and was offering comfort in the best way they knew how, I felt helpless and afraid. I was concerned that this little girl was miles away from me, without the type of love and comfort I felt she needed or someone to talk to her about God’s care for her and about her well-being and safety as His child.
I sat down to pray for her and to seek a sense of peace. I picked up The Christian Science Monitor and turned to the Christian Science Perspective article, which was all about God being with and caring for our loved ones even when they are apart from us. The inspiration that flowed from the ideas in the article completely washed away my worry, and I was able to pray for my daughter with a calm and clear mind. I was confident that she was enveloped in divine Love and that she didn’t need me to be physically present with her in order to be healed. I knew that God was right there with her, that she could feel His presence, and that my prayer for her could heal her. And it did! My daughters let me know that by the time they arrived at their destination, she was well.
