Fear dissolves during adventure
“Everlasting arms of Love / Are beneath, around, above” is one of my favorite lines from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 53, John R. Macduff). I had an experience where I got a better understanding of this concept.
A group of friends and I decided to go tandem skydiving, with a professional jumping with each of us. I’d never done anything like this before and had initially not been interested, but I was inspired by my friends to try something new.
As we were driving out to the dropzone where we would get on the plane, I had an overwhelming fear and doubt and was starting to worry about all the “what-ifs” involved. Thankfully, we were all listening to the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly in the car, and this did calm me a bit. But once we arrived, the fear and nerves came back aggressively. However, I knew that I was capable of getting past my distress and could keep moving forward.
