As the tree . . .

As the tree, so am I strong—
prayerfully bolstering every branch of thought
against the stubborn weight
of fear, doubt, pain—
secure in God’s might alone.

As the tree, so am I resilient—
never rigid or brittle
amidst the winds of criticism, cruelty, injustice,
but ever rebounding in the certainty, the peace
of Love’s unvarying perfection.

As the tree, so put I down deep roots,
which burrow beneath the sandy soil
of popular trends and hopes
to the stability and infinite supply
of true spirituality.

As the tree, so rise I to the light—
appreciating each new occasion
to lift consciousness above the false ceiling
of limitation, lack, despair
into God’s brilliant, eternal day.

And as “the tree is not the author of itself,”Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 89
so, too, do I,
with humble understanding and quiet trust,
find in Life’s wisdom and simplicity
my every quality, purpose, and joy.
