Prayer brings harmonious childbirth
For the first ten years of my marriage I was able to become pregnant only twice. In both cases I miscarried and experienced pain, but found healing and relief after seeking and receiving Christian Science treatment.
Some time later, these words from Hymn 58 in the Christian Science Hymnal came to me: “expectant, joyful, / Ready for Thy right commands” (Elizabeth C. Adams). I saw this as an angel message from God telling me that I was expecting—and it was later confirmed that I was pregnant again.
I called a Christian Science practitioner and expressed concern because of my previous miscarriages. She shared with me this phrase: “Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,” which affirms the truth that there is but one divine Parent of all, one creator, who is completely harmonious. Mary Baker Eddy uses these words to express her spiritual sense of the line in the Lord’s Prayer “Our Father which art in heaven” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 16). I had prayerful treatment in Christian Science throughout the pregnancy and went to full term.
While I was in labor, I learned that the baby was not in the correct position. When the practitioner was informed of this, the position of the baby was soon corrected through her prayer alone, and the baby was lovingly welcomed.
After the birth of the child, I experienced a problem of continued bleeding, but this, too, was healed through the practitioner’s prayers.
Later, I became pregnant with a second child. The doctor, whom I knew would be needed for the delivery at my local hospital, was concerned about my low level of iron. I remember the Christian Science practitioner saying that vitamin comes in part from the Latin word vita, which means life, and she declared that I had all the life I could ever need, because God is our only Life, and we can never be separated from this Life. At the next appointment, I registered an acceptable level of iron.
When the baby came to full term, I gave birth with almost no labor pains, thanks to the practitioner’s prayerful support. Throughout these two pregnancies I continued my earnest study of Christian Science.
I’m hopeful that this testimony might encourage someone who has encountered problems with pregnancy. Christian Science was the sole aid that brought me these blessings.
