Swift healing of flu-like symptoms
I have learned how important it is to be grateful for what God has given. As the Psalmist says, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psalms 139:14). God truly sees each one of us as wonderfully made—as His spiritual ideas, without flaws or troubles. It is important that we see ourselves this way, too—as healthy, active ideas, always expressing God, day and night! I was able to put these concepts into practice several months ago.
I awoke in the middle of the night with aggressive symptoms of the flu. I sat up and right away began to pray, affirming that this trouble was nothing more than an aggressive mental suggestion, which had no power or authority behind it. God, divine Love, was right there taking wonderful care of me, and I didn’t need to fear. Since God is the only power, I knew there couldn’t be another power at work that could make me sick. It is natural for the normalcy, health, and wholeness God gives to man to be made manifest in the human body. I took a strong mental stand for this truth and refused to allow the suggestion of sickness to go any further.
In my daily practice of Christian Science, I am continually learning to follow this instruction from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good.” This passage goes on to say, “God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man” (p. 393).
I could resist seeing an incorrect view of myself because I knew I was God’s wonderful creation, and therefore couldn’t be pulled into accepting a false, material view. And guess what? After praying for a few minutes, I lay back down, felt at peace, and before long was waking up to my alarm clock, totally free! I felt rested and ready to start my day helping others.
I knew from other healings in my life that, as Science and Health states: “Truth is God’s remedy for error of every kind, and Truth destroys only what is untrue. Hence the fact that, to-day, as yesterday, Christ casts out evils and heals the sick” (pp. 142–143).
And in the Bible, the book of Jeremiah says, “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise” (17:14). We can confidently expect God’s power to stop fear and bring healing to our lives. Our completeness and wholeness can’t be hidden from us; they are spiritual fact, and our divine right.
