Profound sense of Love’s allness heals chest pain
A few years after I became a Christian Science practitioner, there was a time when I would occasionally experience severe chest pain in the night. Each time this happened I would silently go over “the scientific statement of being” until I glimpsed the immensity of the meaning behind the words, especially, “All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468). The pain would end, and I would fall asleep. I also took to heart the Bible’s promise from Psalms 118: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” (verse 17).
A couple of times, though, this discomfort became apparent to my immediate family (who did not understand Christian Science), and they became quite fearful for my well-being. Although they were well-meaning, they tried to limit some of my activities, and they became more and more opposed to Christian Science.
One time when my husband was overseas, I had what seemed to be quite a severe attack. I phoned a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray about the situation. Very soon I could feel my fear abating, and I was able to walk upstairs to bed. I had a good night’s sleep, but enough was enough! I wanted to shake this whole thing once and for all. My husband would be home in a couple of days, and I did not want him to be concerned for me.
