Severely burned hand healed

As I was growing up, my family always had big Fourth of July celebrations at our house. It was a tradition for my parents to take my sister and me to the fireworks stand so that we had lots of fireworks to set off in our backyard.

One summer when I was in high school, many friends and family members were watching my cousins and me set off fireworks. My cousins were holding Roman candles in their hands while the explosive fireballs shot out of the top. I had never done this and wanted to join them. After I lit my candle, about two balls of fire shot out before the entire device exploded in my hand.

I had been raised in Christian Science and loved going to Sunday School. Because of this, even in that moment I knew that God was present and taking care of me. Mary Baker Eddy assures us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which is the textbook of Christian Science, “Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal” (p. 306). I very calmly walked inside, went into the bathroom, and shut the door. I did this because I knew how important it was to keep my thought fully open to God and shut out any fearful thoughts from friends and family. At first, I began running cold water on my hand—the appearance of which was alarming, with severe burn symptoms evident. However, I was used to relying on Christian Science for healing and trusting God to meet my every need.
