Sorrow and illness healed
On Halloween 11 years ago, I was taking my two-year-old daughter around the neighborhood to trick-or-treat. My husband stayed home with our newborn daughter to pass out candy when trick-or-treaters came to our house. It was a beautiful evening out.
But almost as soon as my daughter and I started walking, I was overcome by a feeling of heaviness and sorrow. I had been upset by events in the news, some of which involved children, and I felt helpless. Although I wasn’t thinking specifically about this as we started out, it had been really bothering me and it suddenly came to the surface. Soon after that, I began feeling ill and feverish. By the time we got home, I was in a considerable amount of pain.
My husband is not a Christian Scientist, but he has always been supportive, so he asked me if I should call a Christian Science practitioner. I really didn’t want to. Even though I was having trouble praying for myself, I just didn’t feel like asking someone for help.
