Significant improvements in my community

Originally written in French, this first appeared in the September 2016 French, Portuguese, Spanish, and German editions of The Herald of Christian Science.

It is with a heart full of gratitude to God, our Father-Mother; to our Master, Christ Jesus; and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, that I would like to talk about how my community and I have been blessed. I’m so grateful for the Comforter promised by the Master, which is Divine Science (see Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 55).

Our community had several problems: lack of running water (for more than 12 years), lack of street lighting, and lack of public transportation because of the poor condition of our main road. The road was so bad that the taxi drivers refused to drive on it. When I moved into this beautiful neighborhood, the road had been that way for quite some time.

I’d been living there for over two decades when I took Christian Science Primary class. The inspiration I got from that class impelled me to pray about my community because I could see, for the first time, that it was possible to contribute to solving these problems through prayer. So I endeavored to perceive that in God’s kingdom, which is always present, everything is already right and nothing necessary can be missing because God, our Father-Mother, always meets our needs. I knew this truth could be applied to such important things as running water and electric power, and I thought of what the book of Hebrews says regarding faith: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (11:1).
