Hearing fully restored
Several months ago I had a problem with one of my ears. A family member told me that she was not hearing clearly in one ear. And, immediately after, I found that I also was not hearing clearly in one ear, and the ear was rather tense and sore. It was difficult to wash the ear normally, and I started using the other ear when on the phone in order to hear better.
From my study and practice of Christian Science over many years, I knew that “man,” as described in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, clearly does not have any problems like that. Mary Baker Eddy writes in her textbook, “Man is the expression of God’s being” (p. 470); and she defines man as “the compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind” (p. 591). I knew from experience that basing my thought on this true view of God and man (rather than on the mortal senses’ false, material view) brings healing.
I tried to listen consistently to God for the spiritual truths I should hear, rather than think about how the ear was feeling. In my prayers I challenged, with these truths, the concept that it is usual for people to hear less well as they get older. I knew that man, as the expression of God’s being, is ageless and perfect, and so we are not bound to deteriorate.
