Accept the midweek gift of Church
I love the inspiration from our Wednesday testimony meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist. What a wonderful midweek lift! The meetings include short readings from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, followed by testimonies of Christian Science healings from anyone in the congregation. There is no collection taken at these Wednesday meetings; they are a gift to each of us—an opportunity to receive and share inspiration from one another.
Writing about these meetings, Mrs. Eddy said: “Beloved Brethren: … I specially desire that you collect no moneyed contributions from the people present on these occasions.
“Let the invitation to this sweet converse be in the words of the prophet Isaiah: ‘Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price’ ” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, pp. 148–149).
