Sudden sickness healed
I am so grateful to report a healing that took place in 2015. My husband and I had flown up to Michigan from Florida to put our condo up for sale so that we could simplify our life. We had enjoyed driving back and forth to enjoy the “best of both worlds” for the last 23 years but decided it was becoming too much. We sold our condo and our car in a little over a week. Praise God for answered prayer! But I was pushing myself to pack up the things I wanted to take with us to Florida and to get rid of excess baggage.
One morning, after several days of working hard to get things done, I began to feel dizzy and nauseous. Although I felt fearful, I had been studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson as I usually do, and I knew that fear was just false material evidence seeming real. So I challenged the symptoms and knew they were not true. They could not indicate anything about what I really am as a deeply loved and cherished spiritual idea of God.
Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive” (p. 463), and I thought about this. The feelings of sickness continued for some time, so I persisted and said “the scientific statement of being,” giving deep thought to the meaning of each word (see Science and Health, p. 468). Also, one of my favorite citations from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, came to me: “Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick” (pp. 476–477). I also knew from my study of the Bible, Genesis 1, that I was made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, and so I am spiritual, not material.
