A son’s depression lifts
In October 2013, I found my son very disturbed and crying uncontrollably. He said he was feeling very low and lonely and had been experiencing such feelings at frequent intervals for the previous two years. Seeing his condition, I became fearful. It seemed that he would not be able to study and take his upcoming university examinations.
I contacted a Christian Science practitioner, told her about my son’s condition, and requested her support for me in praying about my fears for him. Meanwhile, my son also asked for help from the same practitioner.
The practitioner encouraged me to remain obedient to God and not to interfere with the Christian Science treatment for my son by imposing my human will on him. She lovingly explained that there are different types of thoughts that come to us. For example, there are positive thoughts and there are negative thoughts, but there is also another type, which she asked me to find out prayerfully. I prayed about this and realized that the other type is divine thoughts. When I shared this with the practitioner, she asked me to accept and remain with divine thoughts, which are real thoughts from God and are always true. For example, I should see each and every individual, including my son, as God sees him—as perfect and spiritual, reflecting Godlike qualities such as goodness, health, and harmony.
