Protection and my first ‘meal’ of the day
First appeared as a Web Original on September 7, 2015.
One of my favorite times is the early morning, when all I can hear are the birds singing. Studying the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson first thing brings out the best of the day to me. I might say it is my first “meal” of the day—it feeds me spiritually and prepares me for whatever comes my way. And I’m very grateful for that.
Praying about protection is always something I do each morning—not just for me, but for family, friends, those who protect us here in the States and overseas, and others. The fact that we are never separate from God, good, has come to thought more consistently as I’ve prayed to understand the Lord’s Prayer (see Matthew 6:9–13), including this statement: “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Another reminder of God’s immediacy is the “Daily Prayer” in the Manual of The Mother Church: “ ‘Thy kingdom come;’ let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 41).
Declaring and acknowledging the inseparability of the creator and His creation brings an awareness of ongoing divine protection in our lives. Understanding that this is law and that law cannot be altered or broken was demonstrated one particular day—a “show day” for some of my musical theater kids.
